Governance FAQ
What happens if my delegate doesn’t vote either?
If you delegate your voting power to a member, let’s say Alice, and neither of you vote, then both of your voting powers combine and go to Alice’s delegate. This continues until the delegated voting power reaches the first actual voter in the chain of delegation.
See Neuron Following (opens in a new tab) for details.
What happens if my delegate chooses me as their delegate as well?
This is prevented by the system. Members cannot delegate to members who have already delegated to them.
What if nobody votes?
The proposal is nullified.
What if only one person votes?
Then the decision on the proposal is considered unanimous.
What if no quorum is reached?
The proposal is nullified.
What if a bad actor takes over the DAO?
By the time someone is voting on a decision, they have been voted into the GFACT pool by other members and have done meaningful work for the DAO in the eyes of their peers. It would likely take months or years of this activity to gain enough voting power to have significant influence.
If this is done as part of a scheme to defraud the DAO, there’s nothing this system can do to prevent it. In fact, there are few systems in the world that can defend against this level of effort and deception. Although the incentives are designed to make it very difficult and unlikely to happen, it’s ultimately up to DAO members and the social layer to detect bad actors.
How is the topic for a proposal decided?
The initial topic of a proposal is decided by the proposer. It can be changed by a separate DAO vote, but it is assumed that topic manipulation would be avoided due to the consequences of losing delegations and trust among the community on future decisions, or potentially being voted out of the GFACT pool.
How are topics added, removed, or edited?
Topics are added, edited, or removed with a DAO vote. In practice this is analogous to changing the existing teams of an org and their mandates since the topics dictate what specialties can be empowered.
Who can draft proposals?
Any GFACT holder can submit a proposal.
What if someone submits a proposal that ends before anyone but them can vote on it?
For now we view it as acceptable for this type of action to be prevented at the social layer, incentives, and with reasonable defaults for the voting periods. We are still iterating on this system and the answer to this question will evolve over time – hopefully with community input.
When can I change my delegations?
You can change your delegations at any time. For this reason the DAO should come up with a reasonable snapshot policy to make sure the voting power is not manipulated to achieve an inauthentic outcome.
